BP Oil Spill Case Study
Problem
Providing precise locations of tar balls to clean-up personnel appearing on beaches in Florida.
Solution
Compass Systems sent a team to Florida with the Operational Mapping and Networked Intelligence (OMNi) technology. The OMNi was used to collect precise GPS coordinates along with still imagery, video and audio data. The information could be transmitted within seconds to a command center via a cellular link or use of a dedicated satellite terminal. Once the data was received, personnel could use Google Earth to see the actual location and terrain. Armed with this information, management would give the final report to the clean-up crews who then knew where to look and the level of effort needed to clean the beach.
