Problem
Military operations have become increasingly more challenging with the ever changing types of attacks and the cunning mentality of the terrorists. Their methods are unpredictable and increasingly more lethal. The most effective way to counter these changing tactics is to develop and deploy superior technological capabilities, which will allow explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists to visualize, understand, decide, and act first, using accurate, actionable intelligence.
Solution
Compass Systems, Inc, working with a NATO country, developed the second generation of the Operational Mapping and Networked Intelligence (OMNi) tool specifically for EOD operations. This hand-held instrument provides an augmented situational awareness with precise 3-D positioning and dimensioning, high definition visualization and intelligence and automated reporting. The main benefit was providing accurate information from a true stand-off position to keep the personnel safe.
